Answer by John M
The best Tone Detox is a lifestyle change – a mixture of eating good foods and getting in exercise. There are no quick fixes – and those that are quick are usually temporary and or lies – the REAL ones are rare, and usually not healthy.

Information About Carbohydrate Counts And Moderate Drinking Confusing Or Wrong In Most Low-Carb Diet Books, Says Low-Carb Bartender

No Comments 11 July 2011

(PRWEB) December 29, 2004

Bob Skilnik, author of the recently-released The Low Carb Bartender: Carb Counts of Beer, Wine, Mixed Drinks and More (ISBN 1593372531, Adams Media, $ 9.95), argues that the information about alcoholic beverages found in many popular low-carb Tone Detox books and websites is usually misleading or incorrect. His book dispels many of the myths associated with low-carb diets and alcohol and also contains the carbohydrate counts of over 1000 beers, 400 wines, 60 liqueurs, and more than 200 low-carb mixed drink recipes.

Â?One popular low-carb website is particularly confusing,Â? says Skilnik. Â?Although I’m happy to see that this organization now concedes that low-carb dieters can enjoy moderate amounts of regular-brewed beer, adding the warning that ‘you have to read the label since carbohydrate content varies from brand to brand’ is pure nonsense. Regular beers do not contain nutritional analysis statements on them – as any real beer drinker can tell you.Â?

The site also gives different serving sizes for wine, going from 3.5-ounces on one web page, to a 4-ounce serving on another.

Â?The Alcohol, Tobacco, Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB) has determined that the standard serving size for wine is 5-ounces, so both examples are wrongÂ? notes the author. Â?If a restaurant poured me a 3.5-ounce serving of wine, you can bet I’d be asking to see the sommelier!Â?

There also seems to be some confusion with the effects of yeast on lowÂ?carbohydrate diets and what takes place during the processes of fermentation and distillation.

Â?Advising someone to enjoy vodka or red wine, but stay away from beer, Scotch or other ‘grain-based spirits’ because of residual yeasts in these products is simply wrong and limits a dieter’s drink choices,Â? opines The Low-Carb Bartender.

Â?Vodka, Scotch, gin, whiskey, and bourbon are all grain-based. Distillation guarantees that none of these liquors will have yeasts in them. The liquor is separated from yeasts and other by-products of fermentation during the distillation process.

As for wine, sulfites are added to ensure that a secondary fermentation won’t take place in the bottle, possibly instigated by wild yeasts or even bacteria that might still be found in the finished wine. The yeasts might be dead, but on a microscopic level, they’re still present.”

Beer gets the worst knock concerning yeasts, argues Skilnik. Â?The vast majority of all commercial beers go through a series of microfiltering processes that strip the beer of yeasts and any beer-spoiling pathogens. Rather than add sulfites to kill any residual yeasts Â? as in wine – the yeasts are completely removed.Â?

Although the Anheuser-Busch Brewing Company recently challenged the notion that the simple sugar maltose can be found in beer, and has proven the inaccuracy of the claim that low-carb dieters should avoid all forms of beer, including low-carb and light beers, this ‘urban myth’ of low-carb dieting continues to permeate thousands of web pages and a number of popular Tone Detox books.

Â?Simple sugars like maltose are quickly consumed by yeasts during fermentation with the result being the creation of alcohol and carbon dioxide,” says Skilnik. Ironically, any first-year chemistry or biology student – and even your typical home brewer – knows this elementary principle of fermentation, but you can still pick up any number of low-carb Tone Detox books on the market today and find this inaccurate claim in them.Â?

Bob Skilnik is a certified brewer and freelance writer. He is a contributor to the Good Eating Section of the Chicago Tribune and is a columnist for the LowCarb Energy magazine. He has appeared on ABC’s ‘The View’ with Barbara Walters, ESPN2′s ‘Cold Pizza,’ and Fox News Channel’s ‘Fox News Live,’ preaching the moderate consumption of adult beverages while counting carbs. Mr. Skilnik lives in Plainfield, IL.

What You Should Know About Palm Tree Trimming

What You Should Know About Palm Tree Trimming

Copyright (c) 2010 Chuck Matthews

Annual pruning of your palms can not only make them tidy for the scheme of your landscape, but it also promotes the health and longevity of your tree. It is always up to the owner’s discretion whether to trim back the dead leaves or not, often for just visual effect. However, there are a few things to keep in mind when deciding to do it yourself. One surefire, reliable option, especially if your tree pruning skills are suspect, is to call a trained professional in the tree trimming and removal business. This is both a convenient and safe method of caring for your landscape and trees.

There are many types of palms and several methods of caring for them. Generally, annual maintenance will ensure the quality of your palms, but there are always extenuating circumstances that may result in other problems such as root rot, root-knot nematode, lightning, high winds, etc. We will deal with general maintenance here.

First thing for those with tall palms that require climbing, DO NOT use equipment that will puncture or wound your palms such as tree climbing spurs. This will allow an opening, for example, for insects to compromise the infrastructure, causing disease and possible destruction of the tree. Use techniques such as these:

-An A-frame ladder

- Rent a hydraulic lift from your local equipment rental yard

- A pole saw

- Long-handled hedge clippers and loppers

The first thing you should know is the best time to trim your palms, especially in Arizona and the desert Southwest. If dead branches and leaves are left alone and with incoming storms and high winds, then personal property damage could occur or even worse property damage to a friend and neighbor. Not to mention it is crucial for the tree’s health to trim back dead and dying leaves and branches. It is best to consider pruning when your tree has brown, yellow or broken fronds, or leaves. Do this in late spring. Remove any petioles, or boots, flowers or fruit stalks, by hand if you are able to so as to not damage the trunk. The fruits, for example, of a Date Palm can be both infertile and fertile, bearing seeds that make an unpleasant mess. The fruit, if matured, can drop also causing a mess, not to mention becoming food for unwanted pests such as scorpions and pigeons that will nest in or near your palms.

Says Elizabeth Davison of the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences at the University of Arizona, “…pruning too high up the crown or too close to the trunk can cause damage, disease, water uptake problems, or trunk constriction.”

Tips for the Novice Palm Tree Trimmer

1. Devise a plan before hoisting up your machete and brutally, and perhaps fatally, chopping up your palms

2. Always use protective gear:

- Goggles or some type of eye protection

- Thick leather gloves

- Long sleeve shirt and pants

3. Only trim away those brown fronds towards the bottom. The main growth area of a palm is in the upper middle section. Stay away from this area when trimming.

4. When the tips of the healthy fronds become brown, carefully trim them back being extra careful to cut at an angle to preserve the natural shape of each frond.

5. Never cut off green braches and fronds. This is detrimental to the life of the palm.

6. Do not take off more fronds than the palm can produce in a year. This weakens the tree and makes it susceptible to disease and infection, high winds and fatality.

Irrespective of the types of palms or the area in which you live, pruning palms isn’t easy nor is it very enjoyable, especially if you are doing it for the first time. Call a tree trimming professional that can make it look easy and do the job right. Total cost can vary depending on the amount and type of palm. Contact a reputable tree trimming company that specializes in palm tree pruning to give you a quote today.
